Research Interests
The UKCTE gene therapy group is developing next generation viral vectors for the delivery of genetic material to target cells and tissues for the purposes of research and therapeutic application. We are presently working with adenoviral, retroviral and lentiviral based constructs with the aim of efficient transduction and co-ordinately regulated gene expression in model systems and in vivo. The group has a particular interest in controlling the expression of multiple genes from a single cassette by the development of bi-directional or bi-cistronic cassettes driven by inducible promoters. We also aim to address targeting and transduction efficiency issues by pseudotyping retroviral and lentiviral vectors with manipulated or novel envelopes from tissue tropic viruses. Our drive is to create vectors that are safe and efficacious for the use of gene transfer in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
