Research

It is the purpose of the UKCTE Research Programme to develop internationally competitive basic science research to guide innovative tissue engineering applications in medicine. UKCTE is endowed with an exceptionally strong team of scientists and clinicians, including those with outstanding research records in cell biology, extracellular matrix biology, molecular biology, gene transfer, wound healing and in biocompatibility, haemodynamics and angiogenesis and supported by those with strong relevant clinical experience. The Programmes strength is based on the translation of basic research discoveries to tissue engineering applications. The Programme has a strong emphasis of cellular and molecular research with a clear understanding that post genomic research provides the opportunity for rapid progress in biosciences that will enable the development of innovative tissue engineering applications.

Research is grouped within 3 Themes

1. Skin and Laminar Structures
2. Cartilage, Intervertebral Disc, Tensile and Compressive Structures
3. Vascular and Tubular Structures
