UKCTE is a research collaboration in Tissue Engineering in the University of Manchester and the University of Liverpool. It supports research staff in The Faculty of Life Sciences and in The School of Medicine in Manchester and in the Department of Clinical Engineering in Liverpool.
Mission Statement of UKCTE:
To extend the base of scientific knowledge that
underpins tissue engineering and to translate
this knowledge to the development of
commercial products and clinical treatments for
healing injured and diseased tissues
The research programme of UKCTE is funded by the Research Councils (BBSRC, MRC, EPSRC) for 6 years by an Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration (IRCol) Award. This was awarded to Manchester/Liverpool as a result of a specific call for applications and an extensive review process. The UKCTE research programme was initiated in March 2001.
Research within the 3 Key Themes are outlined on the following pages:
1. Skin and Laminar Structures
2. Cartilage, Intervertebral Disc, Tensile and Compressive Structures
